The GPS or Global Positioning System is utterly functional system containing multiple task and functionality. It is controlled and has been manufactured by Rockwell and designed by the U.S.military.But, how long it will work this way, will this continue to work in the user or civilian community. Presently, exceeding 50 manufactures of GPS receivers are available, which are getting smaller or Lilliputian, less costly or inexpensive, and more easily functioned and operated equipment and devices. However, there are a large number of issues that are surrounding the future operability and technology of GPS or Global Positioning System. The increased expansion and utility or usage into new areas of application is the most definite form of the future of Global Positioning System. It is said that more than 50 million GPS users are supposed to be till 2010. Increased positional accuracy and more dependable calculations will also be included in additional advances in GPS technology. And to meet the requirements of the public or general users with some to no military, civilian frequencies and civilian codes are going to be included.
With the arrival or emergence of the European Galileo System, the benefit of interoperating the NAVSTAR and GALILEO system were pondered increasingly by the users and the developer.
A GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is expected by many experts, which is to be developed through which the compatibility of technology from the NAVSTAR GPS system and the Galileo GPS system will be capitalized. Through this detailed and comprehensive support system the users would be provided with navigation infor-mation, which covers a lengthy and broader field along with higher accuracy data.
Due to the availability of two more satellite group or constellation, more and more satellites will be accessed by the user community throughout the word, this way they will benefit from it. But, for the GIS user community, there is one future trend which is going to be highly relevant that is; the regional receive networks and community base stations, like GPS technological and management innovations that shall form GPS surveying more accurate and easier.
