Magellan GPS is one of the first suppliers to use the new Navteq Traffic service. It has recently introduced three compatible portable GPS.Magellan. GPS has a number of GPS devices which are very useful and beneficiary for the user community.
The top-line Road Mate 6000T, which has an integrated traffic receiver, has recently been included by Magellan's new GPS devices with Navteq Traffic. This unit is also the first from Magellan to offer hands-free calling with Bluetooth-enabled phones. While playing MP3 and WMA music files from an SD or MMC card, the turn -by -turn directions can be provided at the same time by this device, and this unit is also containing text-to-speech verbal announcement.
By using Radio Data System (RDS) service, traffic information to GPS products can be sent by this new service, called Navtq Traffic. The service, by covering a population of 120 plus million people, will use CBS Radio Data System.
Navteq Traffic information will be called the third arm of Navteq Real Time Traffic Services. This is presently providing traffic for both XM NavTraffic and Sirius Traffic. About every five minutes the updation is provided under the service. The 6000T will be shipped in July with three months of service at a price to be announced soon.
The Road Mate 3000T can be availed in April at $599,with a traffic service accessory to follow in June at $149(comprising 15 months of service),joined by the 3050T in June at $649 with three months of service.
Though there are less than 100,000 subscribers who enjoy real-time traffic,but,according to The Telematics Research Group,Minnetonka,Minn, this may go up to a user base of 6-8 million by 2010.
