Laptops are utilized quite often to allow employees to work off-site such as at home, on a plane, train, and even automobiles.
We rely on these machines to store vital data which serves as one of the most powerful tools we have - information. These mobile machines however, do not operate without it's dangers - namely trauma caused by dropping these small portable machines.
Lost data may occur due to numerous other causes as well such as accidental files/Partition deletion (User Error), mechanical failures, reformatting, overwriting, software corruption (Logical), virus attacks, and environmental damage (Fire, Floods, Lighting, etc).
All laptop hard disks are prone to the same problems as their desktop counterparts, but because of their smaller size and greater density they are uniquely prone to a few others also.
Typical data loss situations that arise with laptops are -
- Virus attack
- Fire, water, coffee and other liquid damage
- Accidental reformatting of partitions
- Accidental deletion of data
- Hard disk component failure
- Hard disk crashes
- Inaccessible drives and partitions
- Media surface contamination and damage
- Impact damage eg. the laptop is dropped or sat on
