Smart Media and Compact Flash are type of memory cards. Smart Media memory card has been used by digital cameras since from very beginning of the digital cameras. But recently, Fuji and Olympus digital cameras have started using Compact Flash. The majority of the market utilizes Compact Flash cards.
Smart media got a setback after using of megapixels in the digital cameras. Initially cameras could not captured big sized pictures as they used 8 to 16 mb memory card. These were smart media. Using the 8 to 16 mb memory card the space was limited to store a big picture. But for a Compact Flash there is no limit for storage space. In coming days, cameras using Smart media will face lot of setbacks for its limited space.
A lot of people who have bought digital cameras are pleasantly surprised to find that they take far more pictures than they ever did when using a traditional camera. You will find that it only takes a few shots using digital cameras before the standard memory card supplied with your camera soon gets full. Digital cameras are still being shipped with cards as small as 8mb. I would recommend a minimum of 32mb, but 128mb is not exactly excessive. Memo to all manufactures of digital cameras: "Please can you supply decent sized memory cards with all digital cameras".
