It is a kind of tag attached with adhesive to something so as to identify the object or its contents. Labels are available in many forms and they can be differentiated by the type of base material called stock and they are printed on and by the adhesive type that they use. The most common type is made with paper stock and this term can also be used for sticker. Labels can be put to many uses ranging from product identification to name tags.
The various types of labels are:
Piggyback labels
These are made by combining two layers of adhesive substrate. The bottom layer forms the backing for the top. These can be applied to any object as normal and the top layer is a removable layer which can be applied elsewhere.
Block out labels
These labels are not see through at all and they conceal what lies underneath with a strong adhesive.. Holographic labels
These are used for authentication and protection against counterfeit. They are used for credit cards, ID cards etc.
Radioactive labels
Radioactive isotopes of chemical elements such as carbon 14 allow the in vivo tracking of chemical compounds.
