It is an image created by collecting and focusing reflected electromagnetic radiation. The most common photographs which are created of reflected visible wavelengths produce permanent records of what the human eye can see.
Most of the photographs are created with a camera which focuses the light onto either photographic film or CMOS image sensor or CCD. They can also be made by placing objects on photosensitive paper and exposing it to the light or by placing objects on the platen of a flatbed scanner.
Traditional photographs are produced with a two step chemical process. In this process the film holds a negative image which is then transferred onto photographic paper as a positive image. Positive film is used for producing transparencies. Which is mounted in cardboard or plastic frames called slides. Most of the photographs which are published in magazines are still originally taken on color transparency film.
Panoramic format images are taken by using special cameras like Hasselblad Xpan on standard film. Digital photo formats are stored in various file formats of which JPEG is quite popular. Other graphic formats which are used are PNG, TIFF, TGA, GIF and RAW.
