It is a rectangular piece of thick paper or thin cardboard which is meant for writing and mailing without using an envelope at a rate lower than a letter. A postcard is generally printed by a private company. In the world of art, postcards can be translated into an art object. The art form is referred to as mail art.
The study and collection of postcards is referred to as deltiology. Some activists generally create oversized postcards on poster boards urging action on a particular issue and mail them to public offices. The idea behind it is that they tend to stand out and cannot be filed away in a folder somewhere. The standard postcard sizes are 4.25 * 6, 6*11, 8.5*11 and 6*8.5.

They have been the hottest items among the collectors since the early days and these cards are known for showing historic buildings, towns and streets which are no longer in existence or have changed over the years.
Greeting Cards
The popularity of greeting cards has declined over the years. The most common greeting cards are Birthdays, Raster, Christmas and Labor day cards which were common at one point of time and are scarce today.
Art Cards
They are the most important in the antique category and these cards have been made with actual paintings of famous artists.
Historical Cards
These are used to celebrate historical events such as parade, battle of war or some political event. These cards are quite rare nowadays
